Of every appetite He could have named, the Lord chooses the two no human being can survive without — hunger and thirst — and attaches them to justice. Aquinas defines it: the constant will to render each one his due. The fourth Beatitude pairs with the Gift of Fortitude, because wanting what is right is not enough — you need the strength to pay for it.
